ALBAWABA - An Israeli tank has crashed the Rafah border crossing with Egypt and announced controlling it.
A video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) showing an Israeli tank crashing on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing. An Israeli flag was later pictured rising over the border.
A spokesperson for the Gaza border authority cited by Reuters reported that the Rafah crossing has been forced to shut on the Palestinian side after Israeli presence.
The Israeli army announced yesterday the beginning of its ground invasion of Rafah despite warnings from the United Nations, the United States, and the EU as well as the approval of Hamas on a Qatari-Egyptian ceasefire proposal.
Moreover, international humanitarian organisations warned that an attack on Rafah would be catastrophic for the estimated 1.4 million people.
According to Al Jazeera, Israeli warplanes pounded residential homes in Rafah overnight, killing at least 12 people.
The latest Israeli war in Gaza which started on Oct. 7, 2023, has left over 34,735 Palestinians killed and more than 78,108 injured, according to the Gaza ministry of health.
