ALBAWABA - The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced arresting several Russian spies who were plotting to assassinate Ukrainian officials including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Counterintelligence and SBU investigators thwarted the FSB’s (Russia's security service) plans to eliminate the president of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leadership," SBU said on Telegram.

According to a report by the BBC, among the arrested were two Ukrainian government protection unit colonels. They were part of the Russian State Security Service (FSB), SBU reportedly stated.

According to the initial investigation, the suspects were hunting for "willing executors" among President Zelenskyy's bodyguards who could kidnap and kill him.
