ALBAWABA - The Gaza Solidarity Camp on campus was dismantled and pro-Palestinian students were scattered by law enforcement agents backed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) at the University of Southern California (USC).
Pro-Palestinian activists' actions are being put down by the authorities, despite ongoing tensions among American institutions. Police cordoned off the Gaza Solidarity Camp at USC as students came to demonstrate their support for Palestine.
A few of the protesting students were led away from the campus center by police during the intervention. The university then issued a statement asking everyone in the campus center to leave, threatening to imprison anybody who did not comply.
Some students cooperated with the warning and fled the school, while police moved in to clear the area of any remaining protestors and prohibit re-entry. As part of the police operation, the campground was dismantled and the tents were taken down.
In response to questions, USC officials told CNN that they had asked the LAPD for help up to the May 9 graduation ceremony, and that police officers would be staying on campus to provide increased security until the event was over.
