British warship intercepts Houthi missiles targeting commercial ship in Red Sea

ALBAWABA- A British warship, HMS Diamond, has successfully intercepted a missile fired by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. The missile was aimed at a commercial ship, highlighting the ongoing tensions in the region.

In a separate incident, an EU ship destroyed a Houthi drone launched from Yemen, further underscoring the volatile situation. The drone, launched from an area controlled by the Houthi group, was intercepted by the EU's mission in the Red Sea.

The frigate involved in the interception is part of an EU mission aimed at protecting merchant shipping in the Middle Eastern waterway. The incident comes amid escalating threats from Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al Houthi, who vowed to continue military operations in the Red Sea until the siege and aggression against Gaza cease.

Abdul Malik Al-Houthi also expressed intentions to expand naval operations to include the Indian Ocean, citing disruptions to Western shipping in the Red Sea. He claimed that American ships passing through the region have decreased by 80%, leading to soaring insurance rates.

Earlier, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that Houthi naval forces targeted two vessels, including a US destroyer, in the Red Sea.

 Saree asserted that the attack was carried out using cruise missiles, hitting the container ship MSC Veracruz in the Indian Ocean en route to Abu Dhabi, UAE.
